Match Report

Their third opponents were Chinese Taipei, who had a strong showing against Korea Republic in a 1-3 loss. Chinese Taipei have better physical intensity and individual skills than the second opponents Guam, so Japan could not afford to lower their guard. In the meeting before the match, head coach Kato said, "Whoever you face, what you do is the same. Do what you are supposed to do."

Just after the kickoff, Chinese Taipei put high pressure, but Japan connected passes around and opened the scoring when NAKAO Momo (JEF United Chiba Ladies Rame) dribbled through the left flank and composedly netted home. Five minutes later, Japan broke through the left side again and UEDA Kana (Urawa Reds Ladies Junior Youth) kicked the ball into the net to give her side a two-goal lead. In the 25th minute, Ueda added one more for her side finishing the first half at 3-0. The Japanese bench replaced three players for the second half.

In the 38th minute, ONO Haruka (JFA Academy Fukushima) fired a shot from the edge of the box for Japan's fourth goal. In the 43rd and 48th minutes, Ueda scored two more goals, which made the match one-sided. Despite allowing a spectacular header by an opposing player bursting into the box in the 52nd minute, OIKAWA Riko (FC Miyagi) gave Japan's seventh goal after an interception from the opposing goalkeeper in the 61st minute.

After playing the match with fair play spirit, both teams showed gratitude to each other and shared handshakes.

As a result, Japan ended the group league at second with two wins and one loss following Korea Republic with three wins and then meet Korea DPR, topping the Group B, for the final berth in the semi-finals on 23rd.

Head Coach's Comments

KATO Kenji, Head Coach
Though we achieved our goal to take the initiative both in offence and defence, I think there were lots of situations where our passes to the strikers from the backline were stopped by opposing players. We've got first ball controls lazy and lost the rhythm in some stretches. We need to look at opponents more carefully. (Because the match kicked off at 2 p.m.,) the temperature was higher than that of the previous two matches and the players seemed a bit tired as it was the third one. Still, we have a day off tomorrow so will adjust our condition for the semi-finals.
