Match Report

The Japan National Women's U-19 team played the second tune-up game in their United States trip against Brazil.

Japan was forced to spend much of the time defending against Brazil's attacks early. Japan had a scoring chance as SONODA Mizuki headed a cross from SHIMIZU Risa, who was in the right side, on 23rd minute, buy it hit the bar. Yet Japan had another opportunity on 35th, when the Brazil goalkeeper failed to catch a cross of MIURA Narumi and SEIKE Kiko put it into the goal net to give Japan a 1-0 lead before halftime.

Coming in the second half, Japan changed their formation to 4-1-4-1. As it worked to half Brazil's moves, Japan began surging. On 58th minute, KOBAYASHI Rikako reacted to a through pass of NORIMATSU Ruka, and she got fouled by the goalkeeper to earn a penalty kick. Kobayashi made the kick herself to extend Japan's lead to 2-0. Japan kept their momentum afterward as well.

On 60th, Seike received a pass from SUGITA Hina and connected it for another goal to give Japan a 3-0 lead. MIYAGAWA Asato put a KITAAGAWA Hikaru cross into the goal to seal the win right before the whistle was blown. The Japan National Women's U-19 squad posted a second straight win with a 4-0 win over Brazil.

Head Coach and Players' Comments

TAKAKURA Asako, Head Coach
For our second game, we came onto the pitch, trying to achieve our goals, which were to cope with the opponents' speed and power early, to play with different rhythms offensively and to score when we could. But against the physically-stronger Brazil, we weren't able to play on par and struggled to play with our own page in the first half. In the second half, they lost their momentum and we created some attacks in our ways, which led to some scoring, but we still had issues in terms of attacking in the vital area and accuracy of our shots. We would like to be particular about accuracies of each plays of ours more before we get into the third match.

MATSUBARA Shiho (Cerezo Osaka Sakai Ladies)
We were able to beat Brazil 4-0, but it wound up being a game that we left so many issues. Individually, my judge-making was late and got the ball robbed, and lost the ball because I made slight mistakes on passing routes. As a team, we lacked accuracy on our shots. We want to pay attention to those issues we had today in our training tomorrow, so we can improve ourselves. I'll do my best to contribute to the Japan team's win in our final game against Mexico.

MIYAGAWA Asato (Nippon TV Menina)
Like we did in the game against the United States, we again had hard times for how to deal with opponents who had speed and power and came aggressively from up front, and it gave us some dangerous situations in the first half.

In the second half, because they lost their stamina, we had more time for our offence. It was good that we have a better awareness of taking shots, but we lacked accuracy on our shots and hardly scored goals. As we expect better opponents going forward, even one goal could differ outcomes, so we want to develop ourselves and raise the shot accuracy from our practice tomorrow, taking advantage of the issues we came up with today.

SEIKE Kiko (Urawa Reds Ladies)
I scored two goals, but missed so many critical shots. As a team, too, we had problems in our accuracy. Once I get in the pitch as a forward, it's my job to score as many goals as I can, so I would like to be more greedy for aiming at scoring.
