Match Report

U-16 Japan Women’s National Team, who are to participate in the coming AFC U-16 Women's Championship, played a practice game with three periods of 35 minutes against JFA Academy Fukushima (Women) on the third day of their training camp.

The team let the opponent earn a corner kick just after the kick-off, and conceded a goal from a loose ball. However, after 27 minutes, the forward MIURA Haruka, who received a pass in front of the goal, dribbled up to strike a goal, levelling the game.

In the second period, in the 43rd minute, the opponent headed home with a cross from the left wing, building a one-goal lead. Then after 64 minutes, from counter-attack the forward UEKI Riko passed the ball to the midfielder NAGANO Fuka, and Ueki finished with a shot that secured the equaliser.

After 72 minutes, at the beginning of the final period, the opponent once more built a one-goal lead by getting through on the right wing. However, the defender ICHINOSE Chisato scored from a right corner kick to level the match again after 75 minutes. Then Ueki struck a goal in the 81st minute, and the midfielder YONEI Honoka scored from a right corner kick in the 93rd minute. Japan won the training match 5-3.

Coach and Players' Comments

KUSUNOSE Naoki, Coach
I organised a training match against JFA Academy Fukushima, thinking of coming tough games in the AFC Women's Championship. We were pressed by JFA Academy Fukushima from the beginning of the game, and conceded a goal from a corner kick. Although we let the opponent lead the game, we gathered ourselves up to level the match.

I’d like to point out that the players succeeded in leveling the game in tough situation. Having said that, we could have avoided those two losses, and should have scored more through our goal-scoring opportunities. We’ll focus on improving them even more. We only have two more days in Japan before the championship. We’d like to prepare ourselves well to leave for the site, Wuhan in China.

DF #3  WAKISAKA Reina (Cerezo Osaka Sakai Ladies)
We didn’t stay vocal to deliver our demands to each other in today’s match. To win in Asia, we need to communicate more among the players, as we usually don’t play together. As we can start to be more vocal anytime, I’ll try from tomorrow’s session.

FW #24  MIURA Haruka (Urawa Reds Ladies Youth)
Personally, I was glad that I could improve myself from yesterday by focusing on our issues. As a team, although we succeeded in our set pieces several times, I think there is still some room to improve. So I’d like to try harder in the remaining sessions to get the team ready before the AFC U-16 Women's Championship.

MF #8  KARAHASHI Mayu (Albirex Niigata Ladies U-18)
I was on the pitch in the first and the second period. The match was drawn at the end of the second period. I think we didn’t share our vision for each play enough. So I’d like to analyse each play to become more harmonious, not leaving problems untouched, so that the team will become better.

GK #1  TANAKA Momoko (Nippon TV Menina)
I let the opponent score a goal at the beginning of the match, and put pressure on my teammates. I shouldn’t let it happen as a goalkeeper. This is the task I need to improve. As we haven’t got much time before the AFC U-16 Women's Championship, I think we need to share details among the team, rather than just fixing problems. I’d like to continue to concentrate with my teammates to take the lead in the game.

MF #13  ISERI Natsuki (JFA Academy Fukushima)
Although we could go near the goal, we couldn’t find the back of the net due to the poor quality of our last passes. During the evening meeting, we were told that we weren’t vocal enough. I think this is one of the reasons that we couldn’t coordinate last passes well. From tomorrow’s training session, I’d like to communicate with my teammates more when there is a careless mistake, so that we can improve each other. I’d like to do my best, practicing seriously in the limited remaining time and face the AFC U-16 Women's Championship with some confidence.
