"00JAPAN" U-16 Japan National Team short-listed squad improve coordination in preparation for upcoming four games starting tomorrow

13 February 2016

The second day of the Shizuoka training camp saw two training sessions, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon.

In the morning, the players checked their physical condition by using heart-rate monitors to take their pulse just like yesterday. Then they moved onto practicing with the ball to increase the quality of last passes, especially focusing on through-balls. The coach MORIYAMA Yoshiro gave constant and enthusiastic encouragement to the players. They also did some 4-on-3, 5-on-4, and 11-on-10, in which attackers had a numeric advantage. The players worked on how to get through the opponent, increase the quality of last passes, and reach the space behind the opponent. In terms of defence, they practiced how to predict when to defend using their bodies and control the line, as well as 1-on-1. Each player focused on his respective tasks.

During the lunch meeting, the goalkeeping coach SATO Yohei showed videos to show the set pieces in the "00JAPAN" match against the U-15 Korea National Team and in European games in preparation for the afternoon session.

In the afternoon session, the players started with muscle training as they did yesterday. The conditioning coach OGAI Tomohiro told the players, whose forms were not correct, not to just soldier on, but to check the form each time in detail. Then the team once again focused on increasing the quality of passing, and repeatedly practiced attack and defence in front of the goal, which is the usual training style of "00JAPAN". They stayed competitive and showed off highly intense attack and defence. At the end, they played an 11-a-side, which was occasionally suspended to check the positioning for free kicks and corner kicks in preparation for tomorrow.

In the evening, the players shared what they learned over the past two days, while watching a video of FC Barcelona in the FIFA Club World Cup 2015, and finished their two-day activities. The team will meet Fujieda Higashi High School and Shizuoka Gakuen High School tomorrow.

"00 JAPAN" is the nickname of the U-16 Japan National Team that consists of members who were born after 2000.

Players' Comments

DF  KUWAHARA Kaito (Avispa Fukuoka U-15)
I was really nervous on the previous tour, as it was my first time. However, I know the team’s atmosphere and my teammates’ strengths on this tour. So I could display my strengths as well. During today’s training, we weren’t fast enough in switching between attack and defence, and also in moving the defensive line forward after reacting to crosses, which remain our problems. As I believe that there will be several opportunities for attacking in tomorrow’s game, I’d like to contribute to goals by running up aggressively from the sides. I let the opponent earn unnecessary fouls in front of our goal in the previous tour, this time I’ll judge the circumstance quickly and play calmly.

DF  FUJII Haruya (Nagoya Grampus U15)
I’m over the moon to join the team for the first time. I’d like to showcase my strengths in practice sessions and matches, so that I’ll be called up again. I want to learn as much as possible here, which is a different environment from my club team, and play against strong teams without fear. During today’s training, I let the ball go just after intercepting it. The staff advised me in detail about how to improve my game, and I’d like to learn from that. I’d like to proactively do coaching in tomorrow’s match, so that we can use the players up front well to win both games.

DF  KUMADA Shuto (Kashima Antlers Junior Youth)
During this tour, I’d like to learn as much as possible from my teammates and the staff, and stay proactive. I will challenge crosses, which are my strength. I’ll focus on increasing the quality of my first touch and into the next movement, thinking of each and every play in this tour. I learned there are important things off the pitch, such as nutrition and muscle training. I’d like to stay aggressive with a strong spirit in tomorrow’s game, and try to contribute to the team.
