Match Report

On the third day of the training camp, Japan women’s U-16 players had a training match against FC Verdure Mishima in the format of three sets of 30-minute game.

Japan women’s squad struggled early against physically more overwhelming opponents. In the 13th minute, FC Verdure fed a cross from the left flank, which was headed in front of goal, but Japan escaped it as the header hit the cross bar. But in the 18th minute, Japan allowed the first goal of the match when the goalkeeper’s failed clearance was taken away and kicked into the unguarded goal. And in the 28th minute, another header off a cross from the right side widened the Japan’s deficit to two goals. The first 30-minute finished as Japan trailed two goals down.

In the second set, Japan kept conceding goals in the 43rd and 44th minutes. But Japan started to fight back as they apparently got used to the opponents’ speed. In the 46th minute, TAKAHIRA Miyu’s long feed reached rushing KOJIMA Seira, whose shot was denied by the goalkeeper. Three minutes later, YONEI Honoka received the ball on the right flank and fired a shot. The rebound off the goalkeeper was taken by Ueki Riko and Ueki shot her own but it went off the goalmouth. As Japan’s offence started clicking, in the 56th minute, they scored their first goal when NAGANO Fuka fed a ball after a corner-kick play to ICHINOSE Chisato, who put it to the back of the net.

The third set started with Japan trailing 1-4. Even though another goal was scored for FC Verdure in the 76th minute, Japan’s offence did not get discouraged. In the 87th minute, NAKAE Moe, who got substituted onto the pitch earlier, caught a pass in the box and fired a shot. But it right went into the goalkeeper’s hands. In closing minutes, YOSUE Suzuka also with a pass in front of the opponents’ goal went into one-on-one against the goalkeeper. She calmly saw how the goalkeeper came at her and turned her body around for a shot. However, it was cleared right near the goal line by a defender. That concluded the set of training match with its score being 1-5.
