Match Report

The U-19 Japan women’s national short-listed squad held a friendly consisting of three 30-minute playing periods against Tokai University Shoyo Senior High School on the fourth day of their training camp.

The game kicked off at 9:30 in the morning. Although Japan kept taking the initiative, in the 19th minute, they were intercepted in their area and conceded a goal with a lob shot from their own mistake. After 25 minutes, KOBAYASHI Rikako, who reacted a long-distance ball from NORIMATSU Ruka, passed it to SUGITA Hina in front of the goal. She took a shot, only for it to miss the goal toward the left. In the 30th minute, the opponent stole the ball again in Japan’s area and dribbled up, striking a goal. The first period ended 2-0 to Tokai University Shoyo Senior High School.

In the 41st minute, SONODA Mizuki on the left wing received a pass from SHIRAKI Akari, and chipped a perfect lob, checking the position of the opponent’s goalkeeper. The ball went into the right-hand corner of the goal. However, they consecutively conceded goals in the 46th and the 52nd minute. The game went into the last period at 4-1.

In the last period, Japan were eager to level the game and stayed ambitious for goals. After 72 minutes, ANZAI Yuka, who received the ball in front of the goal, dribbled up and took a shot. It went wide of the right post. Then in the 74th minute, SEIKE Kiko reacted to a through ball from MATSUBARA Shiho in the right side, and fired in a shot, which unfortunately went wide of the left post. Although Japan kept pressing in the opponent’s area, they could not find the back of the net. The score stayed at 4-1 until the end of the match.

Head Coaches' Comments

TAKAKURA Asako, Head Coach
We began the game bearing in mind that we’d strengthen our compact and solid defence as a team and improve the quality of our attack. We focused on the swift changes between defence and attack, after improving the quality of our initial attack. We wanted to initiate good attacks, judging and sharing both as individuals and as a team, whether we’d start the counter-attack or continue passing.

Although we could keep possession longer than the previous game, we could neither start an effective counter-attack nor create a goal-scoring opportunity. We conceded three goals from careless mistakes, not considering the speed of the opponent’s pressure, which destroyed the rhythm of our game. We still have to learn ‘to judge and choose plays to win the game.
