Japan Women’s U-19 short-listed squad enter domestic training camp

Japan Women’s U-19 short-listed squad enter domestic training camp

The team started their morning training session under a drizzle. The players who just competed at their own club went through recovery menus, focusing on jogging, while the others carried out practical training that they played four-a-side games with two free players.

In the afternoon, they were hit with even harder rain. They checked some fundamental techniques such as dribbling and passing, and then played a 4-on-3 in a space that was about one-third of the pitch. By having four players on the offensive side, they tried to build up capitalizing on the outnumbering situation. They wrapped up the day as they played a pair of 15-minute intra-squad games.

Players’ Comments

SHIMIZU Risa (Nippon TV Beleza)
We practiced, focusing on an intra-squad game, this afternoon. It was the first training camp in a while, but because many of the players had played together when we were of the Under-18 team and other previous times, we were able to have a good defence that we showed as a group. But offensively, we struggled to create chances and we had few occasions to end with shots. We have worked on our defence mainly, so I think we could showcase our defensive ability, but it will be important for us to be able to find ways to attack against solid defence of the opponents. Hopefully, we will be able to give our offence more options by elaborating our combinations and crosses during this training camp.

KITAGAWA Hikaru (JFA Academy Fukushima)
I have two objectives in this training camp. One is to keep challenging, not being afraid of making mistakes. The second is to play maintaining my volume of movements. We have a pair of games against male teams this time. To make these occasions better, I would like to keep up with those opposing players who are faster and stronger, and I would like to help the team find ways to score by getting involved in our attacks capitalizing on our connections. We were forced to play under a heavy rain in today's training, but because you make passing mistakes in the slippery conditions, you would give your opponents counter opportunities, so I felt that we had to pursue bettering each and every quality of our plays. I would like to go all out in working on my training in the reminder of the schedule.

ANZAI Yuka (JEF United Ichihara/Chiba Ladies)
Before our morning training, we worked on body core training. The menus that we did were all basic, but I couldn't fully utilize my muscles, so I felt that I had to do things being aware of that from my daily training. Also, at the trapping and passing practice, I tried to be conscious on my first touches, but I occasionally received the balls near my foot too much. The faster the passes get, the more important the first touches will be, so I would like to pay attention to put the ball at the spots I can move to the next play quicker. We played an intra-squad game in the end, and I tried to show my dribbling, which is one of my traits. It was great that I was able to help scoring after my dribbling and a pass, but at the same time, I thought I went in a little too much, so I want to play by making better judgements, seeing the surroundings. I would like to continue to work harder, with the mind-set that I won't lose in battling for the ball.

SONODA Mizuki (Musashigaoka College)
We trained under a rain today, but each one of us worked on our training with higher concentration. I was able to manage to overtake opponents on 1-on-1 and 2-on-1 situations capitalizing on my ideas, and on 4-on-3s I could play being aware of scoring goals by switching between offence and defence. In the intra-squad game, I had too few plays to get behind the opposing players, and I often receive the ball at my feet, so I would like to make my actions bigger and elaborate on my tricks against the opposing defenders. I want to put out my strength while I want also to absorb the strengths of other players, so I will raise my level.

SHIRAKI Akari (Urawa Reds Ladies)
We trained under a heavy rain today. We worked on some passing and controlling and played mini games in which we were required to us our brains during the morning, and then played an intra-squad game in the afternoon. I would like to read how the team is playing while I capitalize on my own strengths, and have a better judgement on whether I should keep the ball or attack in the end.
