Provisional Japan Beach Soccer National Team training camp report (15 June)

The players again held one training session in the morning and another in the afternoon on the third day of the Provisional Japan Beach Soccer National Team’s training camp.

The head coach Mendes has been trying new attacking tactics for the national team, which aggressively involves the goalkeeper, on top of other tactics, such as 3-1 and 2-2. Mendes thinks passing the floating ball is one of the most vital and characteristic beach soccer skills used in those new tactics. The players spent a great deal of time passing and shooting the ball among four players without dropping it on the sand, and at the end played a practice match.

In the afternoon they had an intra-squad game in preparation for a practice match on the last day of the training camp. The players actively called out encouragement to pass the ball or to correct their play styles on the beach.

Many people gathered to watch, as it was Saturday. The players responded to requests from fans for their autographs and photos. It seemed to motivate the players and make them play with pride.

MATSUO Naoya(Pracia YAMAGUCHI)
I was really pleased that the training camp was held in a green area of Fukuoka. I feel grateful it was a very comfortable environment. In my third training camp, I found it quite tough to choose the best tactic smoothly from the variations I’ve learned. If my choice of tactics leads to a goal, then I do understand what the coach Marcelo is trying to do. I can’t wait to try it out in the real match. I will do my best to stand out during the last day of the camp in order to be selected as a member of the national team.

TERUKINA Shingo(SOL MAR PRAIA)
The third day of the training camp has finished. Just like the previous camp, we focused on tactics. In the tactics of the head coach, Marcelo, the goalkeeper plays a vital role using his judgment of the situation. So I want to fully understand what the coach wants me to do and put it into practice in every single session. As the goalkeeper coach is with us as well, I’ve been having good practice sessions, with some advice on basic training, reading the game and mental tips. I will do my best in the practice match tomorrow, so that I will play well as an individual as well as a member of the team.
