Beach Soccer Japan National Team training camp begins first time in Fukuoka

The training camp of the Beach Soccer Japan National Team started on Thursday 12 June in Fukuoka, Fukuoka.

It is the third camp since Marcelo Mendes took the head coaching position, and the first time to be held in Fukuoka, away from the usual destination of Okinawa. When it was about to begin, it started drizzling. The temperature was rather low as well, but it might have been better that way for players working out.

The training centred on physically-enduring workouts with the ball. The circuit training with six different stations didn’t last long but was certainly demanding for players. Right after the start the shirts the players were wearing started changing their colours with sweat even in a chilly weather with sea breeze.

After the physical workout, they moved on and spent the rest of the time for different patterns of corner kicks. They repeatedly made sure the three different corner kick combinations that Coach Mendes introduced to the team during the last camp in May. The coach provided detailed instructions especially on the quality of passes and how to block right in front of the goal. Mendes kept telling players that set pieces decides the outcome of a close match, and players surely took the advice and worked on each play communicating with each other on what to do.

This training camp is scheduled to end on Sunday 15.

ABE Yuya(A-line)
It’s the first time for me to join the national team, and it was the first day today. I was a little nervous, but I have been able to blend in with the team as I kept trying to communicate with the coaches and teammates. Speaking about goalkeeper workouts, I want to show in the practice from tomorrow what I am learning from the goalkeeper coach. In this training camp, I will do my 100% and show what I am capable of doing to leave no regrets at the end.

AKAGUMA Takuya(Dorsole KITAKYUSHU)
I got invited to the team for the first time, and to be honest I was nervous. Every set piece coached by Coach Mendes is very specific and difficult. When we work on the strategies from tomorrow, I will try not to panic and also to do my best to show what I can do well.
