About Copa Sudamericana

This is a prestigious football club competition in South America, equally important as the CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores. The championship started in 2002 by integrating two former international football competitions in South America—Copa Merconorte in the north and Copa Mercosur in the south.

All the fixtures from the first round to the final are played in a home-and-away knockout format. In 2017, a total of 54 clubs entered the championship from 10 different countries belonging to the CONMEBOL.
