The 15th All Japan Seniors (over 60s) Football Tournament to start this weekend

The 15th All Japan Seniors (over 60s) Football Tournament will be held at Sun-Green Sport Village (Yubari Heiwa Sport Park) in Yubari city, Hokkaido on Saturday 30 May.

This competition aims to promote football among the older generation and encourage people to play football as a lifelong sport. 16 selected teams from nine regions across the country will participate in this important 15th tournament. The teams will be divided into four groups to play the first round in order to decide the top teams in each group. These teams will then advance to the final round, the knockout stage, to play the semi-finals.

Many different types of players, including ones who are very seriously focusing on playing and the ones who just love football, will take part in this tournament. SUZUKI Yasuo (Fukuoka Rokujyugara Football Club), who used to play for Nippon Steel Yawata FC and took part in the previous championship, noted: "one of the charms of this tournament is that you can see your old opponents and teammates. I enjoy myself sharing the same aim, communicating with each other on the pitch." KIJIMA Yukito (Shinshu Wakuwaku Soccer Club), who qualifies for three teams as part of the over 40s, over 60s and over 70s, mentioned the joy off the pitch as well, saying: "I can try hard myself, because others say they are lifetime footballers as well, as though they were in their twenties. One of the best thing is to share good drinking time with everyone after matches." SEKI Tsuyoshi, who leads Hamamatsu Football Club KAIDO in the previous championship, will play for Shizuoka squads. He shows his seriousness, saying: ‘I aim to become the strongest in the senior generation, while I’m enjoy playing football. When I play, I always focus on winning.’

Some football stars from previous years, including OKUDERA Yasuhiko (Yokosuka Senior) and MATSUNAGA Masatoshi (Hyogo Senior 60 Selection Team), will also be on the pitch. All the players are getting themselves ready. Please come to the site and enjoy the 15th All Japan Seniors (over 60s) Football Tournament, in which you will see passion for football. The Senior (over 70s) Football Festival will be held on the same ground. Please do not miss either.
