Match Report

On Tuesday 13 August, the Japan Beach Soccer National Team played their first match of the BSWW Mundialito Nazare 2019, where they lost 2-4 against the Spain Beach Soccer National Team.

The match started off with Spain taking control of the ball possession, as Japan was forced to be in the defensive end. In the closing minutes of the first period, Japan’s AKAGUMA Takuya came close to scoring a goal with a volley shot, but his attempt went wide of the goal, as the match entered the second period scoreless.

Japan created a one-on-one situation against the opposing goalkeeper in the early minutes of the period, but their attempt was denied by a great save made by the goalkeeper. The opening goal followed soon after, when MOREIRA Ozu converted a freekick to give Japan the lead in the 18th minute. However, Japan conceded the equaliser from a penalty kick, followed by the go-ahead goal scored in the 24th minute to give up the lead to Spain.

At the beginning of the third period, Spain scored a goal to double their lead. Although TABATA Teruki’s goal in the 26th minute allowed Japan to get within a goal, Spain shut the doors on Japan in the 27th minute with a goal scored from a superb individual effort. As a result, Japan lost their first match with a score of 2-4.

The Japan Beach Soccer National Team will face the host nation, Portugal Beach Soccer National Team, in their second match of the tournament on Wednesday 14.

Players' Comments

FP #5 TABATA Teruki (Veertien Mie BS)
In our first match of the tournament against the Spain Beach Soccer National Team, we were not able to execute our game plan at all. We must make the necessary adjustments ahead of our second match against the Portugal Beach Soccer National Team, so that we can showcase a positive performance. I will enter the match with a strong intention to score goals and to win the match.

FP #7 OBA Takaaki (Loewe Yokohama)
We were not able to execute our game plan throughout the match, and we also failed to make the adjustments during the match as well. I personally had nothing to take back from this match. In order to win the tournament title, we cannot afford to lose the next match against Portugal, so we must commit ourselves to earn results in the next match.
