U-20 Japan Women's National Team begin training in Papua New Guinea

The U-20 Japan Women's National Team arrived in Papua New Guinea's capital Port Moresby on Monday 23 May. Port Moresby is the host city of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup to be held on November. Local children wearing native costumes welcomed the Japanese team when they arrived at the airport.

In the afternoon, the squad started training with a 10-minute free run. After loosening their body with ice breaking, they worked on a possession drill to wrap up the training of the day.

The U-20 Japan Women's National Team will face the Papua New Guinea on Tuesday 24 and the USA on Friday 27.

Players' Comments

MF #10  MIZUTANI Yuki (University of Tsukuba)
We will finally have a match against the U-20 Women's World Cup host country Papua New Guinea tomorrow. This squad is quite new and there are some players who I play together with for the first time, but we will try to combine well with them during the match, and it hopefully ends up in a win. As an individual, I want to showcase my strength in order to capitalise on the opportunity of playing in the host city before the World Cup. And to grow further, I will try to absorb skills and knowledge as much as possible during this short trip.

DF #2  MORIYA Miyabi (INAC KOBE LEONESSA)
We got to Papua New Guinea with a warm welcome from local people. The match against the Papua New Guinea is taking place tomorrow, and we just had a light workout today. It is a good opportunity to play against the Papua New Guinea and the USA, so I don't want to waste it and showcase myself. And hopefully, we win both of them.
