Coach and Players' Comments

Marcelo MENDES, Coach
The players maintained their good condition during the past two days of training in China. How they started the match against Thailand today was wonderful. We were very focused and limited them to few chances, while making many goal-scoring opportunities. I think this is a positive takeaway for the next semi-final. Today 3 new players made their debut and performed very well. The next one is the semi-final against Iran. We know that it will be difficult, but I am confident that Japan National Team will beat Iran and advance to the final.

FP #7 TABATA Teruki (Tokyo Lequios BS)
The first match today was good for us, scoring the opener at the beginning and adding many goals from the formation we wanted to do. However, we conceded some goals due to unnecessary fouls. We will need to sort these issues out to beat Iran tomorrow and go through to the final.

FP #9 AKAGUMA Takuya (Dorsole Kitakyushu)
I felt relieved from the pressure of winning the first match against Thailand and going through to the next match tomorrow. It was very good for us since we could play in the way that we had prepared in the training, and all of us could share the same vision of our defensive tactics to face our opponents today. However, we did make unnecessary fouls, so we need to correct them before the next match. Tomorrow, we will play against Iran with even stronger mentality. I want to contribute to the team by keeping possession of the ball using my physical strength and scoring goals.
