All Nadeshiko Japan get together for opening of Algarve Cup

All Nadeshiko Japan get together for opening of Algarve Cup

Nadeshiko Japan held their training session on the pitch next to their lodgings in the afternoon on Monday 2 March, just before the Algarve Cup.

After the practice match against the United States women's national team the day before, Sasaki, the head coach, commented: ‘the opponent created some goal-scoring opportunities. As we can see our tasks through training, we’d like to find the balance of the defence and each player’s role.’ The players checked the defence and practiced initiating attacks in limited space. They also had a practice game on a half-length pitch during the two-hour practice session. ANDO Kozue (FFC Frankfurt), who had arrived in the morning, joined the practice session fully and showed off her good condition by scoring in the game.

In the evening, UTSUGI Rumi (Montpellier HSC) and NAGASATO Asano (Turbine Potsdam) joined the team, and all the 23 players, who were registered for the coming championship, had dinner together. Tomorrow the team will hold the last practice session in preparation for their opening match.

Player's Comment

ANDO Kozue (FFC Frankfurt)
When I joined the team, I felt the tense atmosphere. Every player focused very well, as the Algarve Cup is essential and also the World Cup is coming. I myself also have to show off my ability before the World Cup. As I have been required to show my individual skills in Germany, I’d like to demonstrate my playing style - be strong near the ball and one-on-one counter-attacks. At the same time, I should be in a position to lead the team. So I’d like to communicate with others on and off the pitch, in order to boost the team's good atmosphere. I think now is the time to try everything without fear of mistakes. I’d like to try something new in attack. As I enjoy playing football with my teammates, I’ll stay focused in every practice session or practice game, in order to improve the team and aim to win the Algarve Cup.
