The 14th All Japan Seniors (over 50) Football Tournament is kicking off soon

The 14th All Japan Seniors Football Tournament, determining the national champions amongst 16 qualified teams whose players are over 50’s, will get underway on 27 June in Fujieda, Shizuoka.

The 16 teams qualified from local competitions all over Japan, and they will be divided into 4 groups of 4 teams. They will play in a round-robin tournament in the 1st round. 4 top teams from each team will play in a knock out Final Round to win this Tournament.

This year, the level of teams seems to be high and it appears the tournament will be very competitive; more so than any past years and each teams have equal chances to be the champion.

Many of teams are playing for the first time at this Tournament and there are only 6 teams who have play for 2 consecutive years: Hitsujigaoka Old Kickers 2002/OV50 (Hokkaido 2), Arufoot Azumino Senior (Kitashinetsu/Nagano), Yamanashi Master’s Legend (Kanto 1/ Yamanashi), Hyogo-ken Senior 50 Squad (Kansai/ Hyogo), Ohzu Senior FC (Shikoku 1/ Ehime) and Tottori-ken Senior SC 50 (Chugoku/Tottori).

The local competition has also been very intensive more than ever before, for example, Toyopet Club (Tokyo) who was the former champion with clean sheet for the past 2 years could not qualify for the Tournament.

Group A has some freshers such as FC Maebashi 50 (Kanto2/Gunma) and Mitsubishi Juko Nagasaki Senior (Kyusyu 1/ Nagasaki). Don’t miss out the play of the local team from Shizuoka Sumpu Football Club (Tokai/Shizuoka) and Kagawa Senior 50 (Shikoku 2/Kagawa).

For Group B, the two teams from Azumino and Hyogo who played against each other in the semi-final of last year will play again but in the first match. Meanwhile, Akita Senior Soccer Club 50 (Tohoku 2/Akita) and Muroran Senior 50 Soccer Club (Hokkaido 1) are expected to get as many points as possible while 2 of the experienced strong teams are fighting against each other.

In Group C, another local team Fujieda Football Club (Shizuoka) is included. Other teams include Yamanashi who came from the very competitive local matches in Kanto 1, Kumamoto Senior (Kyusyu 2/Kumamoto) and Ohzu.

In Group D, 2 experienced teams Koga Sonen Soccer Aikokai (Lazos Koga F.C. Kanto 3/ Ibaraki) will play for the 2nd time after 4 years, and Tabunoki Soccer Club (Tohoku 1/Akita) who is a regular competitor of the tournament are included. Hitsujigaoka and Tottori also aim to go through the first round.
