The 23rd All Japan High School Women's Soccer Tournament will be held on 3 January

The 23rd All Japan High School Women's Soccer Tournament, in which high-school girls aim at becoming the best in Japan, will be held on Saturday 3 January. We’d like to review the previous tournament prior to the curtain-up.
32 schools participated in the 22nd tournament from all over the country. They staged exciting games over six days, with a one-day break. Tokiwagi Gakuen High School (Miyagi), Fujieda Junshin High School (Shizuoka), Hinomoto Gakuen Senior High School (Hyogo) and Kamimura Gakuen High School (Kagoshima) became the semi-finalists.

The first match of the semi-finals was between Hinomoto Gakuen Senior High School and Kamimura Gakuen High School. Hinomoto Gakuen survived a tough time at the beginning of the match, and Irie Miki struck the opener in the 13th minutes. Then two minutes later, Irie scored once more, building their lead. Hinomoto Gakuen, who added one more goal in the second half, defended well against a Kamimura Gakuen fight-back. Hinomoto Gakuen kept a clean sheet and advanced to the final.

The second match of the semi-finals was between Tokiwagi Gakuen High School and Fujieda Junshin High School, which was a thrillingly close game. The score stayed 0-0 until 61 minutes, and Sasaki Miwa from Tokiwagi Gakuen struck the opener. Fujieda Junshin, on the other hand, started their attack, moving up to the goal. Although they created several opportunities, they could not find the back of the net. During additional time in the second half, Kurosaki Yuka headed a cross from the right wing and levelled the game at the last moment. Fujieda Junshin, who built up positive momentum for them, won on penalty kicks 4-2.

In the final Hinomoto Gakuen, who aimed at becoming champion after winning the Inter-high school championships in the summer, played against Fujieda Junshin, who aimed at winning the championship for the first time since the 15th tournament in 2006. Fujieda Junshin took control of the game first. Just before the half-time whistle, Sugita Hina, who received the ball in front of the goal, struck the opener with her left foot. Hinomoto Gakuen, on the other hand, started a fierce attack in the second half. In the 59th minute, KOJIMA Wakiko scored a goal, levelling the game. Then two minutes later, Irie succeeded to turn the game around. Hinomoto Gakuen did not stop their attack and in the 66th minute, Ikejiri Mayu struck a goal. Then after 77 minutes, Irie scored once again, building a three-goal lead. Although Fujieda Junshin never gave up, they could not finish their chances. Hinomoto Gakuen, who scored a rash of goals in the second half, won the championship for the second time in four tournaments after winning the Inter-high school championships.

The same four teams from the previous tournament will participate in the coming championship. There will be many strong teams, not to mention Hinomoto Gakuen, who aim to become back-to-back champions, and Fujieda Junshin and Tokiwagi Gakuen, who want to be champions this time. Please come and join the culmination of high school football.
