Match Report

After clinching their spot into the AFC Futsal Club Championship Indonesia 2018 for the second time in three years, the Nagoya Oceans departed Japan on Sunday 29 July following their 8th Sec. match against the F. League selection team in the F. League. The team arrived in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on the following day, Monday 30 July. The team then spent their time to prepare ahead of their first group stage match against the Dalian Yuan Dynasty FC (China PR) scheduled on Wednesday 1 August.

An official press-conference was held on Tuesday 31 July as Coach Pedro COSTA shared his aspiration ahead of the championship, “Every match will present us with great challenge, but we will enter the tournament with the pride and confidence as the Japanese Champions. We will prepare well to strive for the title.”

The tournament opener against Dalian started with Nagoya taking the initiative, as they took the upper hand in ball possession to threaten the opponent’s goal. However, the Nagoya side were showing difficulties playing in the first match of the tournament as they struggled to convert their chances. The deadlock was broken in the 10th minute, when Nagoya showcased a great sequence of ball movements before HASHIMOTO Masaya pierced a powerful mid-range shot to open the scoring. With momentum on their side, Nagoya created another opportunity in the 15th minute when HOSHI Shota forced a turnover deep in the opponent’s territory and slotted the ball to YOSHIKAWA Tomoki who capitalised the chance to extend their lead to 2-0.

Nagoya continued to show their dominance in the second half as Hashimoto scored his second goal of the match from a corner kick in the 22nd minute, followed by the two goals scored by LUIZINHO in the 24th and 33rd minute. Nagoya committed their fifth foul of the match to give up a spot kick from the second penalty mark and conceded a goal to Dalian but scored back another goal in the final minutes of the match when ANDO Ryouhei scored from their power-play. Nagoya showcased their dominance throughout the match to win their first match of the tournament with a final score of 6-1.

The Nagoya Oceans will now face the Victoria University College FC (Myanmar) in their second group stage match on Friday 3 August at 18:00.

Coach and Players' Comments of Nagoya Oceans

Pedro COSTA, Coach
Our new challenge has begun. We faced a tough match to start the tournament, but we are glad to record a victory. This result will give us momentum in our future matches. You never know what happens in these tournaments, but we will utilise our experience we have gained in the F. League and strive for the title as the representative of Japan.

FP #5 HOSHI Ryuta
It is always difficult to play the first match of the tournament, but today we managed to play with composure. We haven’t clinched anything yet, so we will reset our mindset and prepare for our next match.

FP #11 LUIZINHO
It was a very difficult match. Our opponents played their defence very deep in their territory, so it was hard to attack. But Masaya (Hashimoto) was able to score in a great timing, which allowed us to play our futsal after his goal. I am glad I was able to contribute to our team’s victory by scoring goals today.

FP #13 HASHIMOTO Masaya
First of all, I am glad we managed to win our first match. However, there are many aspects we must improve ahead of our next match. We will unite as a team and give our best in our next match, so please cheer for us from Japan.
