Empowering Asian Female Coaches: AFC-JFA Pro-Diploma Course Module 3 Wraps Up
29 May 2025
The third module of the AFC-JFA Pro-Diploma Course for Asian Elite Female Coaches concluded successfully on 25 May.
This course is designed for female coaches, aiming to develop individuals capable of coaching professional teams and providing leadership among female coaches. The course, which began last October, includes four on-site modules, online sessions, and mentoring sessions. Thirteen female coaches from AFC member associations and seven from Japan are participating.
The module, which started on 18 May in Wuhan, People's Republic of China, in conjunction with the semi-finals and final of the AFC Women's Champions League.
At the beginning of the module, participants shared their greatly improved play models, based on the online sessions and mentoring sessions between modules, and discussed new challenges as they reached the halfway point of the course.
On the third day, for the first time at an AFC tournament, participants had a session with appointed referees. Coaches shared tactical analyses of the four semi-final teams with the referees, while also participating in the referees' briefing. The coaches were stimulated by the referees' serious discussions on consideration points and criteria for judging. Ms. NG Wing Kum from Hong Kong, China said, “I was so impressed by how much referees see the incident, make quick decisions in accordance with the Laws of the Game each play in an instant. When I go back to my team, if the players complain to the referees about the decisions, I want to correct them.” After the session with referees, every participant expressed their respect for the referees.
On the fourth day, we had “Women's Football Experts Forum” with three legends of women's football: Ms. Bai Lili, Ms. Rae Dower, and Ms. Chan Yuen from the Technical Observers Team. Participants learned about the significance of technical reports and team analysis methods, as well as the legends' backgrounds and pathways. During the Q&A session that followed the forum, many questions were asked by the participants and a lively discussion ensued.
This module provided an opportunity for various outputs based on inputs from previous sessions. In addition to group work, many tasks were prepared for everyone to work together, allowing participants to learn how to utilise their strengths, efficiently complete presentations within a limited time, involve everyone, assign roles, manage progression difficulties, and enjoy achievements. The course simulated how to manage a team or project as a head coach or technical leader.
As the AFC-JFA Pro-Diploma Course for Asian Elite Female Coaches progresses, the participants continue to demonstrate remarkable growth and dedication. The successful completion of third module in Wuhan not only enriched their coaching skills but also fostered a deeper respect for the intricacies of football officiating and the wisdom of seasoned professionals.
With each module, these coaches are not just learning; they are transforming into leaders who will inspire and elevate women's football across Asia. The upcoming final module in Osaka promises to be another pivotal moment, where the culmination of their hard work and learning will be showcased.
As these trailblazing coaches return to their teams, armed with new insights and strengthened resolve, they are set to make a lasting impact on the sport. Their journey is a testament to the power of education, mentorship, and the unwavering spirit of female coaches striving for excellence.
Stay tuned for more updates as these exceptional coaches continue to break barriers and shape the future of women's football in Asia.
