Eligibility

  • (1) A team shall be registered for the Japan Football Association (JFA) and a player shall be registered for the team.
  • (2) A player shall belong to a high school stated in Article 1 of the School Education Act.
  • (3) A player shall be a student of a high school that belongs to a prefectural High School Athletic Federation.
  • (4) A players shall be born on or later than 2 April 1995. A player is allowed to play up to three times in the same competition and play only one time with one specific grade.
  • (5) A team is not allowed to mix players from full-time, part-time and correspondence courses.
  • (6) If two or more schools are planned to be consolidated, a joint team of the relevant schools, is allowed for participation.
  • (7) a) A student who belongs to his school less than six months after his transfer is not allowed to play. However, if it is due to a family move or other inevitable reasons, this shall not apply when there is permission from the president of the relevant prefectural High School Athletic Federation. (An international student is also subject to the provision above.)
    b) Even without any school transfer, when a player transfers from a team that belongs to another type of federation to a team that belongs to High School Athletic Federation, he is subject to the 7)a) provision. However, the application of 7)b) is limited to the relevant year.
  • (8) A player needs permission from the president of his school or the president of his prefectural football association.
  • (9) A player shall carry his picture ID issued by the JFA with him.
  • (10) A team is allowed to register up to four International students and play them up to two in a match.
  • (11) Exceptions of eligibility
    a) Other than the students stated in 2)c), a student who is judged to fulfil the eligibility based on the relevant competition outline and who is recommended by the prefectural athletic federation is allowed to play in the championship in accordance with a regulation stated separately.
    b) On the provision 4), a student who belongs to an educational programme with no grade category is limited to play the total of three times in the same competition.

Number of Participating teams

The Total of 48 teams consisting of 46 from each of the 46 prefectures and two teams from Tokyo.

Tournament System

The champions, runners-up and third-placed team will be determined by the knockout system. The third-placed match will not be held.

Awards

  • (1) The champions, runners-up and two third-placed teams will be awarded a certificate and medal. The champions will be awarded the championship flag and retain it until the next championship is held.
  • (2) For the encouragement and development of fair play spirit, the Fair Play Award, consisting of a certificate and a trophy, will be awarded to the selected team in accordance with the JFA’s selection standard. The Fair Play Award will be given per team and selected from the final-four teams in the tournament.
