Match Report

On Friday 10 May, the U-19 Japan Women's National Team played against the U-19 Gabon Women's National Team in their first match of the 2nd SUD Ladies Cup.

Prior to the match, Assistant Coach MIYAMOTO Tomomi gave a lecture to the players on “The identity of the Japan National Team.” Also, on this day, the Nadeshiko Japan announced the final roster for the Women’s World Cup scheduled to take place in France this June. Despite this being their eighth time appearing in the World Cup, their road to the tournament was not an easy path. Coach Miyamoto shared stories from when she was a player of the national team and told the players, “Always stay grateful to your peers and play with pride as the member of the national team. Let’s strive to become a team everybody wants to cheer for.”

The match against Gabon started off with Japan taking the initiative. In the sixth minute, IMADA Sara responded to a through ball delivered by SHIRAI Himeno to capture the opening goal. TAKEDA Asumi followed in the 21st minute, when she struck a shot from distance to make it 2-0. With MORITA Misaki adding another goal in the 35th minute, Japan entered halftime with a commanding lead.

Japan continued to take control of the match in the second half. It was TABATA Haruna who got the scoring going in the 53rd minute, followed by HIROSAWA Maho’s goal in the 64th minute. Forward MIURA Haruka added two more goals to extend the lead to 7-0. NAKAO Momo converted a penalty kick in the 85th minute, while NAGAE Ibuki converted a loose ball in front of the goal just a minute later. With Takeda and KOJIMA Seira adding a goal each during additional time, Japan won the match with a final score of 11-0.

The U-19 Japan Women's National Team will now face the U-19 DPR Korea Women's National Team on Sunday 12 May at 12:30.

Players’ Comments

MF #12 MIZUNO Fukina (INAC Kobe Leonessa)
It was great that we managed to earn three points today. However, we still saw many aspects we must improve on. I personally felt that even though I was given plenty of time to make my plays, the quality of my final passes was not great. I felt the need to work on the quality of my passes from the training sessions, so that I can showcase a better performance in the games.

FW #11 IMADA Sara (Teikyo Heisei University)
This match presented us with many tasks we must work on. It was great that we managed to score many goals, but we weren’t able to execute what we were intending to do, both at the team level and the individual level. Although we created plenty of opportunities in the first half, we lacked quality in our plays at the final third. We entered the second half as if the match was still 0-0, and it helped us showcase a better performance compared to the first half. We must not just regret what we’ve done wrong in today’s match, but rather think how to fix the mistakes and do better in our next match, so we will reset our minds and continue to work hard from tomorrow.
