Comment of Coach KAGEYAMA Masanaga

This will be the first official competition for the U-18 Japan National Team, who will be working towards the U-20 World Cup in 2021. We hope to showcase a solid performance to make our way through the Asian qualifiers. In the team I managed in the past, we had players who were playing at the J.League in their rookie year, and that could be said for this team as well. We are seeing more and more young players playing at the top league, and I think it is a good trend that will continue on. I have told the players that younger players who are currently preparing for the FIFA U-17 World Cup will soon join and add more competition to this team. I am sure that our players will be nervous in the three matches, especially in the third match, where we face a very strong Vietnam side. Goal difference will certainly be a key factor, so we must manage our matches against Guam and Mongolia before we head into the third match. It is not an easy task to win through this qualifier, so we will prepare ourselves thoroughly before the competition.
