Match Report

The U-15 Japan National Team faced the U-15 Mongolia National Team on the final day of the EAFF U15 Boys' Tournament 2018. Japan showed their dominance from the early minutes as they scored the opening goal in the fourth minute, when TAKAYANAGI Eijiro chased down a through ball and fired a shot that was deflected off the opposing goalkeeper. TOYAMA Haruki was there to convert the loose ball to give his side an early lead. Mongolia committed an own goal just three minutes later when their goalkeeper mishandled a corner kick delivered by Toyama to give the Japanese side a two-goal lead. Japan continued to take the initiative, but their third goal didn’t come until the 22nd minute, which was followed by the fourth goal just a minute later, both of which scored by KATSUSHIMA Shinnosuke’s left footed shot. Toyama scored his second goal of the match in the 27th minute as the match entered halftime with a score of 5-0.

Japan utilised all five of their substitutes during halftime and kept on their dominance over Mongolia. In the 36th minute, KAWANO Kota responded to a through ball delivered by SATO Yosei and scored the team’s sixth goal. NOZAWA Leon marked a hat-trick within 10 minutes of play when he scored consecutive goals in the 47th, 53rd, and 57th minute. KAJIURA Yuki’s goal in the 60th minute capped off the goal rush as Japan won the match with the final score of 10-0.

Although there will not be any outright winner or champion emerging from this tournament as it is not a competitive Championship, Japan finished with a record of five wins and one draw in six matches of play, including the training match against Korea Republic. On this day, the 10 participating teams gathered during the evening to conduct a farewell party, as each team entertained the party by singing songs and displaying dance performances. Japan’s Nozawa Leon was the leading scorer in group A while TANAKA Hayato was named the group MVP.

Coach's Comment

Coach MORIYAMA Yoshiro
In this tournament, 10 teams from the East Asian Football Federation (EAFF) was divided into two groups to compete for the title. The matches against Korea DPR, China PR, and the training match against Korea Republic were all close matches while the matches against Chinese Taipei, Northern Mariana Islands, and Mongolia turned out to be lopsided matches. In the training match against Korea Republic, after we scored the goal, our opponents attacked tenaciously, but our team showed great persistence to maintain the lead until the end. The match against Korea DPR followed on the next day, and the players made great adjustments to cope with the strong and intense pressure applied by the opponents, which was something they have never experienced before. The match was so intense that players from both sides were seen collapsing onto the pitch after they heard the final whistle, gesturing that they all gave everything they’ve got during the match. I strongly believe that experiencing such match at a young age of 15 will give the players a positive boost to their development as a football player.

In the final day of the tournament, the 10 teams participated in a farewell party and the Japanese players were given the opportunity to communicate with other players from different teams and spent a wonderful time together. I would like to thank the EAFF and the Chinese Football Association for all their efforts to make this tournament possible. I would also like to thank the clubs, school teachers, and parents for allowing the players to join this team during their limited time of summer vacation. With the national tournament and other events scheduled ahead of them, we greatly appreciate your cooperation. Thank you very much.
