Match Report

On the third day of the training camp, the U-19 Japan Futsal National Team short-listed squad played a practice match against the tournament winners of the AFC Futsal Club Championship Thailand 2016, Nagoya Oceans.

In the first period, the national squad allowed the club team to score goals in the 3rd and 9th minutes. Although it was looking as if the opponents would dominate the entire match, it was the U-19 Japanese team that cut the lead. Right after the second goal, HIGUCHI Takeshi (Ryutsu Keizai University/Football Club) scored their first. Thereafter, the team defended tenaciously, while looking to score from counter-attacks. However, the Nagoya team added to their lead right before the end of first half.

In the second half, the opponents capitalised on their set plays and scored three more goals by the 27th minute. Despite attempting to convert the scoring chances against the stronger team with high individual skills, the national squad failed to find the target until the final whistle. They lost the match 1-6. However, there were many positive takeaways from the match and they learned many things from the potent opponents including the strength on the ball, the accuracy of controlling the ball, and variations in offensive tactics.

In the afternoon, they went through recovery regimen and also worked on set plays to prepare themselves for the final training day on the 8th.

Players' Comments

YAMADA Masataka (FUCHU ATHLETIC F.C. SATELLITE)
In the training match today, we lost 1-6 playing against the top-flight team in the F. League and I felt we have so much room for improvement. Capitalising on this experience, we will work hard in training to improve the level of the national squad.

HIGUCHI Takeshi (Ryutsu Keizai University/Football Club)
We allow the opponents to control the match, but we had stretches where we played at our pace. However, we performed poorly in the second half, where the opponents dominated the game. Learning from the match today, we would like to work hard in tomorrow’s training and end the camp on a high note.

MATSUOKA Rimu (F. C. Tokyo U-18)
It was a great experience to play against the Asian champions, Nagoya Oceans. We conceded 5 goals from set pieces; they displayed high quality football throughout the game. In the afternoon practice, we worked on the issues found in today’s game. We need to correct them until the next game. Personally, I would like work on my strengths in both football and futsal and capitalise on them.
