Match Report

On the third day of their training camp in Argentina, the U-19 Japan National Team had a training match against the second team of Club Atletico Lanus. At the beginning of the match, the Japanese side made few errors when they were pressured by the opponents, but once they calmed down, they began to string passes and move the ball at their pace. In the 12th minute, WADA Masashi receiving a brilliant through pass by Kurokawa capitalised on the one-on-one opportunity with the Argentine goalkeeper and struck an opener. Thereafter, the national squad created many scoring chances by stealing the ball in the opponents' half, but none of them found the net. The first half ended 1-0.

Japan substituted all the players in the second half. They continued to take control of the match. In the 72nd minute, from a well-constructed play on the left flank, onrushing ENDO Keita received a pass in the centre of the penalty area and smashed a brilliant shot to score a second for the Japanese side. Both teams failed to score in the last quarter of the match and the contest ended 2-0 in favour of the national team. Japan finished the first training match with a good result. This was an excellent preparation for the friendlies against the U-19 Argentina National Team.

Players' Comments

DF # 22 ITAKURA Kou (Kawasaki Frontale)
It’s been three days since we arrived in Argentina. Even though the weather is warmer here, I’m missing Japanese food. Overall, this is a good trip for me. Today we had a training match against a local club team, and I experienced the Argentina side’s strength on the ball that I usually don’t feel in Japan. We have a pair of friendlies against the U-19 Argentina National Team soon, so we want to test our current team’s strength.

DF #4 MACHIDA Koki (Kashima Antlers)
While we have had a hectic schedule since the first day after arriving in Argentina, we managed to win the match today. It was good that we stole the ball on both sides as we intended, allowing us to initiate effective attacks up front. It would have been better if we could enter the match more calmly. After the Asian qualifiers, we are aiming towards the U-20 World Cup next year and I want to improve myself ahead of the international competition. To become a more competitive team, we will do our best and attain positive results in the upcoming matches against U-19 Argentina National Team. I want to make this training camp a very productive one.

GK #12 YAMAGUCHI Louis (FC Lorient/France)
We could finish today’s first training match with a good result of 2-0. I think each of us did our best and the team were well united even though we substituted all the players in the second half. I could defend the goal persistently and in offence we created many scoring chances. This was an excellent match for us. We will face the subsequent matches keeping this positive mood.

FW #14 KUBO Takefusa (F.C. Tokyo U-18)
It was my first match as an U-19 National Team player, and there were times where I did not move quickly enough to be in the position to receive the ball or where I could not control well when trapping the ball. However, I created scoring chances by exploiting the space between the opponents. Before the next match against Argentina, I will improve my condition and create more scoring opportunities to contribute to the victory of the team.。

MF #21 HARA Teruki (Ichiritsu Funabashi High School)
This is our first match in the Argentina camp. One of our team’s tactics was keeping the defence compact. I only played for 40 minutes, but we were able steal the ball after corner the opponents. In offence, we still have to improve our accuracy of the final pass in front of the goal. We will work on them and prepare for the next match against Argentina.
