Match Report

The Beach Soccer Japan National Team had their second match of this tour against Fluminense. Japan took control of the game from the start but could not convert that into goals.. However, toward the end of the period, Fluminense began to take gradual control until MOREIRA Ozu passed the ball to Haraguchi Shotaro and he struck an impressive opening goal. Right after that, MOREIRA scored the 2nd goal from a free kick and the 1st period ended with Japan’s 2-0 lead.

For most of the 2nd period, neither team could maximise the scoring opportunities which they created. Japan passed the ball back to its goal keeper but due to the sand it changed the direction and ended up in the back of the net. The 2nd period finished with 2-1.

In the final period, Japan exploded its offensive force. Firstly, MOREIRA scored his second goal, again from a free kick. Right after that, goal keeper Terukina Shingo threw the ball forward and Goto Takasuke took control of the ball in the air then Oba Takaaki got it and struck a brilliant goal.

After extending the score, MOREIRA got his 3rd goal and Komaki Masayuki scored another. Totally, Japan added 4 goals in this period. Before the end of the match, the opponents scored from a free kick but Japan didn’t allow them any more additional goals and kept its lead to finish the game with a convincing victory.

Comments

Marcelo MENDES Head Coach
It is nice to win the second match of this tour. For some players, I gave more time to play than in the previous match and they showed me good performances in response to my expectation. Fluminense is a team of young players with speed. I am very happy because we could control most of the game against such a team. Another good point was our stable defense. Even though we lost 2 goals, one was by our own goal and another one was from a free kick, so both of them weren’t from our defensive weaknesses and I am very satisfied with this. We want to maximise the rest of 3 days in Brazil to improve our team more.

GOTO Takasuke (TOKYO LEQUIOS BS)
I think this match was the best one in terms of a balance between offense and defense since Mr. Mendez became the Head Coach. Since then, we have had many times where we lost possession of the ball even after stealing it from the opponents, but today we could keep the ball most of the time and attack more easily. Personally I think I have been able to contribute to the team by making scoring chances. I do have things to improve on, so I want to keep working hard particularly for AFC Beach Soccer Championship in March.

MOREIRA Ozu (TOKYO LEQUIOS BS)
Today we could take the lead of the match from the beginning. The 2nd period wasn’t good but as a team we stuck to our strategy, and we could win. We still have many matches in this tour; we want to work very hard maintaining our level of play to win the rest of matches before going back to Japan.
