Japan squad verify defensive tactics vs. Cote d'Ivoire

Japan squad verify defensive tactics vs. Cote d'Ivoire

On the fourth day since they entered their base in Itu, the Japan national squad rested not having any practice since they arrived in Brazil on the 10th June. As the members spent their time for refreshing, the team resumed their training on the 11th in their preparation for a match against Cote d'Ivoire.

After a team meeting at the hotel, they walked to the field, which was inside the facilities. The 23 players, plus a pair of training partners, took the field, confirming their defensive tactics against the Cote d'Ivoire offence, for about two hours.
''We have been able to practice in a good mood with some tension, but once we get back to the hotel, we are relaxed, so I think that we are in a very good condition so far,'' Konno Yasuyuki said.
As goalkeeper Kawashima Eiji insisted that one of the team's advantages is that they can turn on and off their switch quickly, the players seemingly have a good balance between their tension and relaxed state. The team look substantial as they get to work for the opening of the World Cup.

After the training, Honda Keisuke received a question from a Chinese media member as to whether he thought if the Japan national team are not just the representatives of Japan, but those of Asia. Honda responded, ''We want to come up with the results we want throughout the World Cup, so we can please all the fans for Japan, not just the ones in Japan, but in Asia and around the world.''

The team is scheduled to have another training on the 12th, and on the following day they will fly to Recife, where they will play their first match.

Comments

DF SAKAI Gotoku(VfBStuttgart/Germany)
I got a little behind due to my injuries, but my condition is nearly back. So now if I can have good cares on my physiques and mental state, I will be able to get in the games in better conditions. So I want to be aware of those.
I have got an experienced that we gained some momentum as the team by beating Spain in our first match in the London Olympics, so I definitely know the importance of the first contest. Everybody says that first matches are always big in group stages of international tournaments, and we will definitely try to win it, but at least we want to end with a draw. I don't think that we can afford to lose it, so we want to firmly take it and get some momentum going forward.

MF AOYAMA Toshihiro(Sanfrecce Hiroshima)
I'm not nervous yet. We have a good mood, and we have good motivation and tension, so we are relaxed for now.
We are in very good environments with the facilities here, and are given the circumstances that we can be relaxed, so it's comfortable to be at.
We've finally come here, and in order to put up what we have established in the last four years, we want to do our best to win our first match.
