Nadeshiko Japan check up coordination in closed-door practice

Nadeshiko Japan entered the fourth day after arriving in Canada. The women's squad continued to have practice on Thursday 4 May ahead of the opening match at the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015.

As the opening day of 6 June approaches, they started to use a bus wrapped with the tournament images and the training site designated by the FIFA. As the artificial turf on the pitch was also a bit different from the one they had been using, IWASHIMIZU Azusa (Nippon TV Beleza) said, "We will first try to get used to how the turf feels." Other participating teams have arrived at their lodging one after another, and the site is becoming unique lively atmosphere of international competitions.

The team made sure their conditioning with walking and stretching in the morning. In the afternoon, they closed the door except for the first 15 minutes and checked their coordination both in offence and defence in a game-style practice.

Players' Comments

DF #20   KAWAMURA Yuri (Vegalta Sendai Ladies)
We had some jet lag after getting to Canada, but we have had training in a good mood. As the opening day is coming up, I've started to feel it's about to begin. I'm really looking forward to the tournament, and I feel more and more strongly every day that I can’t wait to go out on the pitch and play. My strengths are playing intensely on the ball and reducing chances of opposing attacks. The first opponents Switzerland have lots of tall players, but I will try not to lose at every final moment of body contacts. Each of us needs to be tenacious.

MF #22   NAGASATO Asano (1. FFC Turbine Potsdam/Germany)
Because it's my first time to play this tournament and everything is going to be my first ever experience, I'm excited it's about to begin. I'm trying out active challenges in training, but that's still not enough. The opening match is against Switzerland and it's their first World Cup appearance. And they are a team we've never faced before. Everyone in the team knows it's going to be a very important match. The opponents have the well-balanced roster of good players such as players who are fast and skilled and players who can open up the game. To win the match, I will only think about how I can get involved in our scoring and how I can score.
