Match Report

The final was against Korea DPR, the team Japan lost 1-2 in the group stage.
In the beginning of the first half, Japan squad had hard time building up effective offense, blocked by hard pressing of Korea DPR and frequently lost the ball in the midfield. Once taken the ball in the midfield, Korea DPR exchanged quick pass, targeting space of sides and behind defense line, kept setting up the attack and scored the opening goal in the 7th minute when FW push the cross ball from left side. After 20 minute, Korea DPR’s midfield opened wider and created more space, Japan tied the game in the 22th minute after gradually building up the offense by exchanging more passes. In the second half, Korea DPR put harder pressure, penetrating Japan zone and scored tie-breaking and winning goal and won the championship.

Japan squad, battling every game persistently, finished the championship runner-up and received fair play award at the same time. Many of the championship staff praised Japan squad for fair play and gave us cheer. Keep on focusing on fair play, should be noted as tradition of Japan. I hope to see the players who participated in this championship will grow dramatically, “play much skillfully, speedy and tough” by taking advantage of the experience and implement them in every day activities.

Comments

SHIBAYAMA Fumina (NGU Nagoya FC Ladies)
Japan squad was all united and trying to give revenge to Korea DPR as we had lost the game in the group stage. I played left side back. I had two things in my mind. Firstly, about actively involved in offense and defense. Secondly, never lose in 1-on-1 battle. I had more ball touches in both offense and defense. It was very hard to play against the players with speed and power.
But this was the most splendid game for Japan squad in the championship because we could do the things previously needed to improve. But it was very disappointing to lose the game 1-2.
I am eager to practice and brush up my skill when I go back to my team, not forgetting this disappointment.

INOUE Moe (Urawa Reds Ladies Junior Youth)
The final match of the championship, I was nervous but somewhat I wanted to enjoy this game. As I didn’t play in the group stage matches, I strongly wanted to compete in the game.
I think I had good communication among four defense players for defending in compact zone and considering line control which was the problem in the games against China and Korea Republic. It was typical Nadeshiko game – not surrendering, single-mindedly coming back and never give-up even when scored by opponent.
I could nothing but cry after the game because I was really disappointed. I am determined to change the tears in China to the smiling face in the next time.

YAMADA Hikari(Tokohagakuen Tachibana Junior High School Women's Soccer Team)
As we lost to Korea DPR in group stage match, this was a revenge match. We fought as hard as we could for the injured teammates. I went on to the pitch wearing inner shirt with every teammate’s words on and captain mark.
We were down on our knees when we heard the final whistle after 70 minutes. But the head coach said few words to us and we could proudly participate in the ceremony. I was very disappointed when I watched Korea DPR players are receiving gold medal. But two medals and the silver trophy given to us looked great and shining more than anything else.
I have to extend my gratitude for playing with superb teammates and staff on the wonderful pitch against the best team. Thank you very much for supporting me for the last nine days.
