JFA Nadeshiko Friends Square at Tsurumaki Regina, Tokyo

Tsurumaki Regina hosted the ‘JFA Nadeshiko Friends Square at Tsurumaki Regina’ on Saturday 17 May 2014. It was the fourth time Regina hosted the event and 28 girls aged from preschool to the sixth grade participated. Under a clear sky, they enjoyed football on the natural grass pitch.

It was the fourth time we hosted ‘Nadeshiko Friends Square’ since March. We have about 30 participants on average every time, including many regulars.
We prepared our much-celebrated natural pitch in the best condition, mowing the pitch this morning.
We started with a game of tag as a warm up for the children and gradually introduced essential skills using balls. Although it focused slightly on ‘fun’ so that beginners could also enjoy themselves, we intended to get children interested in football, teaching them how to distinguish friend from foe in games and how to find space.
In addition to the physical aspect, during the practice explanation, we encouraged children to think by asking questions, which stretched them mentally.
In the end we had mini games, which were naturally the children’s favourite.
Children aged from preschool to the higher grades in elementary school played together. There were smiles all round, especially when they achieved something new. We have more new participants each time, and everyone enjoys playing football despite differences in ability.
We will continue to host ‘Nadeshiko Friends Square’ to encourage people to exercise and improve the local community.

I came here with my little sister, who is in the first grade. I enjoyed myself a lot, competing in teams and playing mini games with children of all different ages.

My girls take part in practices almost every weekend. Nadeshiko Friends Square has a different atmosphere from normal practice days, offering fun for those who want to learn football.

JFA Nadeshiko Friends Square is a place where women and girls of all ages can start, enjoy and continue playing football and futsal. We are always on the look out for more organisers.
