Comments from Javier Aguirre, Head coach
I know Honduras very well, as it’s a member of CONCACAF. They’ve been playing in a very tactically organised style for a long time, following the rules of successive Colombian head coaches. The players are strong and well experienced in the European leagues and the Brazil World Cup. So I expect a tough game.
On the other hand, as Australia is one of the strongest teams in Asia, it’s going to be a good opportunity for us to challenge and show our ability. Many players of the Australia national team are playing in England and they tend to play in European style, rather than an Asian style like Japan.
Although there is a star player, such as Cahill, generally they are physically very powerful, defending in blocks. They’re also really good in the air. Australia is Japan’s rival and is the favorite to win the AFC Asian Cup in Australia. So we have a chance to show you Japan can beat such a strong team.
These two matches in November will be the last opportunity for us to adjust things and decide how to play before the coming Asian Cup in January. They are also very important tests in front of our supporters before we go to Australia. The 28 players for the Asian Cup will be selected based on these games.
