Joint press conference comments before quarterfinal match U-21 Japan against U-23 Korea – 17th Asian Games Incheon 2014

27 September 2014

Joint press conference comments before quarterfinal match U-21 Japan against U-23 Korea – 17th Asian Games Incheon 2014

On Saturday morning 27th, the joint press conference before quarterfinal match U-21 Japan against U-23 Korea - 17th Asian Games Incheon 2014 scheduled on Sun. 28th was held at Munhak Stadium inviting head coach of both U-21 Japan and U-23 Korea.

Main part of comments made by both head coach is described in following text.

TEGURAMORI Makoto, Head Coach of U-21 Japan National Team

I want to make quarterfinal match to develop our team, playing against Korea, a hosting team at their home. I feel Korea is eager to win for adding overage player. As Korea has been keeping clean sheet so far and I want Japan to open a crack in their defense.

- Why Japan decided to send U-21 national team?
In preparation for next World Cup in Russia, the Asian games gives us good opportunity to upgrade the team which is required to get good result at Rio De Janeiro Olympic. This is also excellent chance for U-21 Japan to play against U-23 Korea.

- Please give us your view about Korea leading 5 wins and 1 loss in past matches of Asian Games against Japan.
I know it is not favorable data for Japan but it put us in challenger position and makes it easier to play the match.

- Who are the players you need to watch out?
To name just few, Park Joo Ho (Mainz, formerly played in Mito, Kashima, Iwata), Kim Jin Su (used to play in Niigata, Hoffenheim) and other players playing in J-League, they all are aware of us and have to be careful about them.

LEE Kwang-jong, Head Coach of U-23 Korea

For quarterfinal match, we are determined to win this game without fail by united together as a team.

- Please give us your view about Korea leading 5 wins and 1 loss in past matches of Asian Games against Japan.
Not a big deal to talk about the past record. I believe Japan team has been much stronger than used to be, we have to be mentally tough to compete against.

- Which players of U-21 Japan you watch out?
All the 11 players.
