U-16 International Dream Cup 2016: Participants experience Japanese culture to deepen exchanges

Tournament underway since 22 June in Tottori

The U-16 International Dream Cup 2016 JAPAN Presented by JFA finished its second fixtures. As Saturday 25 did not have any match, every team spent time recovering from fatigue in the morning. And in the afternoon, all players and staff members from four teams assembled for a cultural exchange opportunity.

All players and staff got on buses together and headed for Japanese culture experiences. The players experienced Japanese calligraphy and Japanese paper making using "Inshu Washi," which has been handed down from ancient times of host region Tottori. The foreign players who got the feel of Japan's unique art of manufacturing seemed to have a hard time learning the ropes first, but they created unique work with Japanese players' support at the end. They actively communicated with each other and took pictures for their memory at times in order to deepen cross-border friendship off the pitch.

The final matches were to be held on Sunday 26. The first match will see Mali play against Hungary for the title. In the second match, Japan, who still have a possibility to win the title, face Mexico. Defending champions Japan and Mexico, who look for the first tournament win, square off with pride. The first match will start at 12:00 at Tottori Bird Stadium while the second match will kick off at 14:30 at the same venue. You can attend both matches for free of charge.

Players' Comments

MF #6  KIDA Hinata (U-16 Japan National Team)
I'm not really good at English, but I tried to communicate with them in English as best I could. In some areas, we can connect without words. We smash into each other's body on the pitch, but we are all cross-country friends off the pitch. (Talking about the match tomorrow) There is a big difference between a win and a loss. We want to finish the tournament with a win.

GK #22  Youssouf Koita (U-16 Mali National Team)
We talked about matches with other countries' players. We said like we've got a good game and played fair. It's a really great experience coming to Japan. I want to tell my teammates and friends about this experience after getting back to my country.

MF #8  Kevin Daniel Méndez Trejo (U-16 Mexico National Team)
For us coming from the opposite side of the earth, it has been a great experience. We are enjoying time here like we interacted with Japanese players on the bus. Tomorrow's match will be definitely difficult, but it will bring something valuable for our future.

DF #4  Csanád Horváth (U-16 Hungary National Team)
We closely interacted with various players on the bus. I want to enjoy the last match and the rest of time in Japan. Mali are very strong, so tomorrow it will be very difficult. But I hope we can finish with a win.
