Match Report

There were two training matches planned in the camp for the AFC U-16 Championship 2014. The game was held against Assumption Sriracha College High School on Fri. 29 August at Chonburi Stadium. In first half, Sasaki Takumi (Vegalta Sendai Youth) scored the opener from free kick, exactly as planned. U-16 Japan was equalized soon after but Sasaki calmly slotted in right net in one-on-one with goalkeeper, finishing first half 2-1. Changing all the starting members at half time, U-16 Japan swept the other side as they were exhausted. Ishikawa Hiroto (Sagan Tosu U-18) showed good performance by scoring two goals including one PK and adding one assist. The training match with Sriracha Ban Bueng FC is scheduled on Sun. 31 August.

Comments

YOSHITAKE Hirobumi, Head Coach
The aim of the training match was to “give it a try” without hesitation on the pitch and solve problem by themselves if something goes wrong. I was disappointed to see the players in first half were mostly reactive and could not see they came to the pitch by their intention. But I put a high mark on scoring goal from free kick something we’ve been practicing.
There were many mistakes in second half but the players were trying to make things happen. The other side players became slow due to exhaustion, the squad could pass the ball with a good rhythm. But in the situation of U-16 was leading the game by big margin, despite other side’s rough play, the squad seemed not to get a grip of what is going on and that is something I was discouraged with.
No training was held in the morning, I was not sure if each player focused on playing 45 minutes and exerted all the strength. I want to see them playing actively and defiantly in tense and high-pressured situations throwing up everything he has.

MORIOKA Takashi (Jubilo Iwata U-18)
Looking other side players, I always tried to play for spotting where to send pass, I couldn’t watch other side players when I got a pressure. I have to revise this problem before the final qualifier (the AFC Championship) starts. It was precious experience for me to play in position other than center back.

WATANABE Kota (Tokyo Verdy Youth)
I battled as if this is the first match of final qualifier. Score-wise, it was a big victory but I realized many things need to improve and I want to improve these problems as a team. I am going to cheer up tomorrow’s training and hang on to it.
