Japan women’s squad tune up for U.S. game in U-17 World Cup

The U-17 Japan Women's National Team, who are currently in first place of their group in the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, began their practice at 16:00 on 7 October to prepare for their next game against the United States on the next day. Maintaining a good level of tension, they worked on passing and controlling exercises and crossing drills in the half-length pitch and played a practice game.

At a free training after practice, some players actively exchanged opinions with other teammates and asked for advise from their coaching staff, showing their strong determination to compete against the United States and win the championship.

The Japan-U.S. match will be the final contest for the group and will kick off at 19:00 on the Saturday 8 October (or 9 October at 1:00 in Japan).

Players' Comments

MF #15 CHIBA Remina (Fujieda Junshin High School)
We are taking on the United States in our final group game tomorrow. We've never beaten them before. We are well-prepared, and we will be giving everything we have to post a victory in the end. Personally, I want to play aggressively but with composure. Not being intimidated the opponents, I will carefully observe ‘how they play’ and compete accordingly. We will contend as one, united team. We are determined to win the match and gain momentum for the knock-out stage of the championship.

FW #9 UEKI Riko (NIPPON TV MENINA)
The United States handed the first loss to us since we formed our team. We have lost twice to them. So I am very pleased that we can take them on again at a stage like the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. This could be the last tournament where I can play with the U-17 teammates, so I am determined to defeat them and get through the group stage. I'm a little nervous, but I will play with pride. Personally, I'd like to score goals and lead the team to victory.
