Match Report

The Japan Beach Soccer National Team, who has been attending a training camp in Danang, Vietnam ahead of the Asian Beach Games, had a training match against Vietnam Beach Soccer National Team on Thursday 22 September.

Japan played against Vietnam in their previous China tour in August, and the members of both teams were nearly the same as the last one.

Since this morning, it was raining heavily but many of Vietnamese media and audience surrounded the pitch. Japan kicked off the match with the ball at 14:30.

In the first period, both teams had many chances but failed to score, and the game went on without any goals until the very end of the period, where the Japanese side scored the opening goal. NAKAHARA Yuki, receiving the pass from AKAGUMA Takuya, connected with HARAGUCHI Shotaro, who in turn slotted into the net.

In the second period, Japan started to take control and attack aggressively. However, this period finished 1-0 due to their lack of shooting accuracy and the fine saves made by the Vietnamese goalkeeper.

Japan continued to dominate possession of the ball in the third period. In the 30th minute, GOTO Takasuke successfully redirected the shot by goalkeeper KAWAI Yusuke into the net, stretching their lead to 2-0. However, in the 33rd minute, Japan conceded a goal from Vietnam’s counter attack.

Even after giving up a goal, Japan continued to keep possession of the ball and controlled the game. However, they had a hard time finding the net.

The game finally moved in the 34th minute. OBA Takaaki successfully capitalised on the post play by Akaguma and Japan extended their advantage to 3-1. Japan continued to manage the match well until the final whistle and defeated Vietnam 3-1.

After the match, a team-welcoming ceremony took place and flags of all participating countries that arrived in Vietnam were raised inside the venue. Japan Beach Soccer National Team was the first among the Japanese teams who arrived in Vietnam, and the players attended this ceremony.

They will not have any training on Friday 23 and resume their training sessions on Saturday 24. Their Asian Beach Games will kick off with the match against Afghanistan on Sunday 25.

Coach and Players' Comments

Marcelo MENDES, Coach
After 2 days of training in Vietnam, we had a test match against Vietnam Beach Soccer National Team. We had rain everyday in Danang, hence it is very important for us to get used to the climate and pitch condition. Winning the match 3-1 shows our high motivation to get the Gold Medal. We know that it is not easy to win a medal, but we have to keep our concentration level high and focus on each match at a time. Tomorrow, we will have a day off. Then, we will resume training and get ready for the first match against Afghanistan.

GK #2  KAWAI Yusuke (Sol Mar Praia)
We played against Vietnam in our previous China trip. In the team meeting, we checked on their formation and movement. However, we had stretches where we found it difficult to score. Despite being unable to widen the scoreline like the previous match, we still continued to do what we had to do without being impatient. I’m glad that we won the game. Furthermore, I find it important that we were able to check the pitch condition as well as our combination prior to the first match. We found some issues today so we will sort these out and do our best to get through the qualifying round.

FP #8  OBA Takaaki (Dorsole Kitakyushu)
We scored the opening goal, but we were not able to capitalise on the number of scoring opportunities we had in the first and second periods. We instead gave away chances to Vietnam. I think we made the situation difficult for us by not being able to take advantage of decisive scoring opportunities. However, we will take the fact that we won this difficult match positively and make a good preparation for the first match against Afghanistan, while correcting the issues found today.

FP #7  TABATA Teruki (Tokyo Lequios BS)
Today it was difficult for us to play at our own pace, since we haven't fully recovered from the friendly match in Akashi and the journey to get here. It was still good for us that we won today; it will give us a kickstart for the Asian Beach Games. I want to prepare myself well for the first match against Afghanistan.
