Match Report

U-19 Japan Women's National Team squad had the third day of their camp and played a training match (40 minutes x 3) against Kamitonda Junior High School.

The match saw Japan take the initiative early on. In the 6th minute, forward KOBAYASHI Rikako laid off defender KITAGAWA Hikaru’s pass with her chest to forward MOMIKI Yuka, who scored the opening goal for Japan.

In the 33rd minute, after Japan earned a left corner kick, defender NORIMATSU Ruka responded to midfielder SUMIDA Rin's cross and tapped the ball into the net with her thigh to give her side a 2-0 lead before finishing the first period.

In the second period, Momiki latched onto Kobayashi's through ball and netted it to make it 3-0 in the 54th minute. In the 62nd minute, forward ANZAI Yuka received midfielder MIZUTANI Yuki's pass on the right flank and fed an early cross into the box, but her effort was saved by the opposing goalkeeper.

Japan continued attacks led by right attacker Anzai as Momiki scored in the 75th minute and SHIRAKI Akari netted one more for a 5-0 advantage.

Japan reshuffled most of the players for the third period. In the 88th minute, forward SEIKE Kiko chipped a deft lob shot over the opposing goalkeeper from the right flank to turn the score to 6-0.

Japan continued to be dominant and put their side further ahead with two more goals from SONODA Mizuki in the 93rd minute and NISHIDA Meika in the 103rd minute. Despite conceding a goal in the 109th minute, Shiraki added one more in the 110th minute before the match end with 9-1.

Coach and Players' Comments

TAKAKURA Asako, Coach
The final training match before the AFC Women's Championship turned out to be a great simulation for the tournament. In an environment where we can take the initiative to some extent, we came out to work on how to build up the game and how to defend.

In terms of our theme in the camp, improving the "quality" of each play, there are still some more overall to improve. During the short period of time until the tournament, we will go all out to address the issues we got today.

MATSUMOTO Mamiko (Urawa Reds Ladies Youth)
We focused on the way to start the match and quality of our game, but we ended up leaving those two things unsolved. It is expected not all pitches in China are good. So we will try to play our game even on such a bad pitch condition.

As an individual, I want to provide passes to my teammates as much as possible in situations where we end up feeding long balls. I personally stick to the quality of my game, too. We don't have so much time left, so we will pursue the style of football that is best suited to us.

TAKEMURA Misaki, (INAC Kobe)
I felt we needed to play our game more precisely. We had some good plays but also had more to improve. We need to work on them. We don't have so much time until the tournament. But we will make a good preparation for the tournament.

SHIMIZU Risa (Nippon TV Beleza)
We have usually played against high school students, but this time we faced junior high students. We as a team tried to take the initiative and dominate the match. But we had easy mistakes in passing and controlling the ball and weren't able to create good moments on the offensive side.

In matches against Asian countries, we may have a match like today, struggling to score and making it tough. We will take advantage of what we learned today and get a lot of goals in the AFC Women's Championship. And with clean sheets, we will get a ticket to the World Cup.
