Match Report

On Day 2 of the training camp, the short-listed squad of the Japan women's national Under-19 team played four 20-minute training matches with Shimizu S-Pulse from 5:30 p.m.

On 9th minute, an S-Pulse player headed a cross but it went above the bar. The Japan team got used to the opponents' speed past 10 minutes or so and gradually possessed the ball longer. On 11th minute, SUGITA Hina sent a pass to KITAGAWA Hikaru, who was running up the right side, but it didn't work well. The Japan team managed to end the first 20 minutes without giving up any goals. But they allowed Shimizu to break through and score goals on 30th, 41st and 46th minutes.

The Japan team, meanwhile, weren't able to fire shots even when they robbed the ball. On 57th minute, an opposing player became one-on-one with the Japan goalkeeper, Asano Natsumi, but she stopped a shot with her left leg. Yet Japan allowed another goal on 63rd, and ended up losing 0-4.

Head Coach and Players' Comments

TAKAKURA Asako, Head Coach
We tried to create our offensive tempo from our defence, but ended up giving up four goals. Yet we were able to pay attention to our collective defence and approaching speed throughout the game. At the same time, I felt that we needed to improve the qualities of our first touches, passing and combination plays so we can create better offensive plays. In order that each of our players can perform with their own traits, I would like to develop on our personnel and team tactics a lot more.

NORIMATSU Ruka (Urawa Reds Ladies)
On the first one, each one of us tried to play forward and we had some interceptions, but we weren't able to make our slides in time, and when the opponents faced forward, we were a little late putting our line back, and I thought that it was our issue. When we play against physically-stronger teams like the United States and Europe, we would easily allow them to get past us and score goals if we are late withdrawing our life, so we want to play trying to be precise on our positioning, even with a step.

MIURA Momo (Nippon Sport Science Univ.)
I entered the game with a mind-set to have a better awareness on defensive approach, which is one of issues. I could do that well to some degrees, but I had some occasions that I could play harder. I felt that it was important to play predicting plays all the time. My judgement was late and I had some rough passes, so it will be my issue that I will be able to see around before the opponents come at me. Not only defensively, but offensively I would like to take positions thinking of two steps ahead. I am going to work on my practice, trying to overcome my issues in the remaining two days.

HATANAKA Miyuka (Iga FC Kunoichi)
Because we played with a male team and they had more speed and power, it gave us hard time adjusting to it, but we were able to have our defence by talking to each other, so we would like to continue that. Individually, I had some occasions that I gave up my back, so I would like to improve on that before our game on the final day. Both as a team and as an individual, we found so many issues, so we want to fix them one at a time.

ICHISE Nana (Tokiwagi Gakuen High School)
Individually, how much I can adjust to the speed of the opponents is my issue. There were so many points that I had to improve like the timing of withdrawing the line was a little late and the distances to the opposing players who were increasing the speed of dribbling. Another issue is our buildups leading up to the front field after we get the ball. I want to pay attention to those two points in our game in two days and play a good defence to not give up any goals and convert them to good offensive plays. We played a 20-minute period for four times today, but I am going to work harder in my daily practices so I can go all out with my brain and feet even if we play for 45 minutes.

HASEGAWA Yui (Nippon TV Beleza)
Because our opponents were male high school players who had speed, there were many occasions that we had to stay in our backfield. Yet we had some occasions that we could play a good, collective defence as a group and occasions that we couldn't do it, which has been one of our issues. Even though we played against the opponents with the speed and power, we could still get the ball with our collective defence, when we increased our speed when they were about to feed passes. We had little time for our offence, and we rarely had time to exchange our passes. But when we used one-touch passes, we occasionally were able to do so. So if we improve on our techniques and judgements, I felt that we could play on par with male teams and teams from abroad. On things that we couldn't do, we will need to correct by discussing them, and on others that we could do, we would like to do them more accurately for a longer time.
