Comment from JFA President on the internal action of JFA’s president, directors in dealing with head coach Aguirre

13 February 2015

The Japan Football Association discussed at its second executive committee meeting in 2015 on 12 February as to whether the executives have the responsibility regarding the dismissal of head coach Javier Aguirre and whether to get any internal action.

There were various different opinions, but the majority of them were that the subjected executives were not found responsible regarding the selection of the head coach and how they handled the situation afterward. Thus, we came to a conclusion to not to make any punishment.

However, General Secretary Hiromi Hara, Technical Committee Chairman Masahiro Shimoda and I extremely regret that the case caused a lot of worries to the players of the Japan national team, our fans and supporters, our sponsors as well as all the people who are associated with football. We have proposed that I will voluntarily return 50 percent of my salary for the next four months, while General Secretary Hiromi Hara and Technical Committee Chairman Shimoda will return 30 percent of theirs in the next four months, and it was approved at the executive committee meeting.

Regarding integrity checking on the new head coach, we intend to have better awareness for precautionary inquiries on them as we move forward.

We appreciate your warm support and continuous encouragement to Japanese football and their national teams.
