Match Report

U-23 Japan Women’s National Team short-listed squad had their second day of their training camp and they had a training match (30min.×3) against Shimizu S-Pulse Youth.

From the beginning, U-23 Japan had difficulty against the men’s youth team with speed and power being more than they could manage. In the 6th minute, they conceded a goal from a cross from the right wing and in the 11th minute, they conceded a second goal with a lob shot; they couldn’t stop Shimizu’s speed.

In the 2nd game, Japan conceded 2 more goals in the 40th and 45th minutes, and 3 players were substituted in the 46th minute to recover power. However, in the 54th minute, Shimizu got another goal. Japan’s midfielder NAKAZATO Yu, midfielder NAOMOTO Hikaru, and midfielder ITO Miki tried to make a chance moving the ball around in the middle but they couldn’t blast any shots.

Just before the end of the 2nd game, in the 60th minute, Shimizu made a shot from corner kick but Japan’s goalkeeper INOUE Nene saved it with her left arm and didn’t allow an additional goal.

In the 3rd game, Japan substituted many players and showed intensive defence based on the team’s goalkeeper Inoue, but Japan lost 4 more goals in the 67th, 69th, 75th, and 86th minutes and the training match ended 0-9.

Coach and Players' Comments

TAKAKURA Asako, Coach
I expected the match to be difficult for us since Shimizu S-Pulse Youth’s men's players are stronger than our players in both skill and fitness. However, we wanted to see how much we could do against them. Mainly, we haven’t built-up the team yet in terms of defence and we also had many critical moments which were caused by our tiny mistakes in making slight decisions and ball control. We have to improve our accuracy in many ways for the future. We still have training sessions in this camp so we will keep working hard to improve ourselves as much as possible.

NAOMOTO Hikaru (Urawa Reds Ladies)
Men’s players are stronger in both speed and power and we lost the first goal at such an early time. However, we could gradually respond to them more in the 2nd and 3rd games. I think most of the foreign players may be like them with speed and power, so it was a good experience for me. In defence, we paid attention to control of our defensive line and in the 3rd game we could get offside from them. We will review today’s match to find out our issues well and keep working hard to improve ourselves from tomorrow.

MIYAKE Shiori (INAC Kobe)
In the 1st game, we were just pressured by their speed and allowed them to take control of the match. After the 2nd game, we could gradually improve ourselves by paying more attention to our defence line. I learned very well in this match that slight mistakes in pass quality and ball control caused us to concede a goal. It has only been 2 days since we formed the team, and we have many things that we can do. Tomorrow, we will stick more to improving the accuracy of each player.
