KOMORI Takahiro Coach Comment

The AFC U-20 Futsal Championship was determined to take place in 2017. In launching a new team for the competition, the U-18 team started their activities.  While the national competition for the U-18 age groups was held only for the second time this year and it's not yet been established in Japan, I visited qualifying rounds taking place nationwide as well as the finals that took place in Sendai.

Players seemed to have heard about such a national team launching and an international competition set up as the AFC U-20 Championship. And they played the tournament with high motivation and, I felt, more players are having their eyes (on the national team).

Since the beginning of the year, I had only a few months to come across high school age group's futsal, but camps for our short-listed squad are scheduled to be held this coming September and December. In the camps, I will check out as many players as possible, watch talented players as closely as possible, and train them together. I hope to find out an outline of the team that are heading for the AFC Championship.

The squad I called up this time includes three F.League players, two players from under-age teams, one college player who I picked up through my visit at the All Japan University Futsal Championship and the players who I selected after watching this past youth tournament. I haven’t decided the squad for (the training camp) this December. Basically, I want a small subset of the big group to join the camp. And I want to continuously call up players who I feel they can be pivotal in the team.

Our next year's schedule has not been fixed, but we don't have so much time left. This time, we consider the activities till December as the first set. Still, I believe there are more talented players we can find not only in the training camps but also from all over the nation.

The door is always open. If we find a player who is capable, he can join the team even at the midway through the camps. The championship in 2017 is not the end. It's wonderful if this national team activity and development eventually links to the senior national team.
